Flatout

Remember how I'm doing low carb? I never shut up about it so you should. I found a new bread substitute!

It's basically a vitamin!
Let's be honest, one of the reasons this particular diet is so difficult isn't because bread tastes so good - even though it totally does - it's because bread is so gosh darn convenient. It's a ready made carrier pack for all your other real food. In my ongoing quest for a similar travel friendly, low carb replacement that doesn't taste like cardboard, I found Flatout. It comes in a variety of flavors, and you can see I tried sundried tomato. It was delicious and more importantly, is was portable.

Stop It

I don't know if you've heard about the newest threats against Anita Sarkeesian, but that was the catalyst that blew up an online movement operating under the hashtag: #stopgamergate2014. I don't want to go into too much detail now since this will be the topic of my full post Friday, but I am definitely Smiling today, seeing so many people - celebrities included - standing up and demanding an end to harassment and threats targeted toward gaming journalists and women in particular.

It's a refreshing change of pace for the internet, usually such a hostile place, to stand up in defense of those being attacked. I hope it actually results in change.

Weird Dinner

Last night, Fiance and I made an unusual but satisfying dinner. Japanese style curry chicken and vegetables with sticky sushi rice, and walnut nutella-swirl cookies for dessert.

I did not eat all those cookies, I was just piling them all on one plate as they came out of the oven.
To be honest, the cookies didn't turn out great. I'm convinced it was the chocolate morsels we used. I started with a traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe - adding chopped walnuts and a nutella swirl, hence the name - but had to substitute chocolate candy melts as we were out of chips. I've used some before and it worked out great. After all, though formed differently, candy melts are designed for melting and/or baking. But these... They've been sitting in the pantry a while, and you know how chocolate gets almost dried out and chalky/rancid after a while? I suspect that's what happened, especially since the raw batter - as evidence by licking it off my fingers and which did not include any chocolate chunks - tasted amazing. I'll try this again with fresher ingredients and let you know. The curry, at least, was outstanding, so I'm still Smiling!
